FOCUS

It was a great old theologian named J.I. Packer who once said, “There is tremendous relief in knowing that God’s love for me is utterly realistic based at every point on prior knowledge of the worst of me so that no discovery about me can now disillusion God the way I am so often disillusioned about myself.” That’s right, the One who loves you most knows everything about you. There’s nothing you can ever say or do that can ever make Him love you more or less than He loves you right now. Nothing. Ever. That’s a big part of what this Psalm is all about.

Another one of Tullian Tchividjian favorite sayings is: “God loves & uses bad & weak people who fail because there aren’t any other kinds of people.” Yes, we can be good & strong by God’s grace at times, but when it comes to our need for redemption, it’s our badness & weakness that attracts the gaze of His amazing grace.

May today bring you to a deeper awareness of how deep God’s love is for you.

The reality & audacity of God’s love …

1. calls & compels us to worship, wonder, bow down, rise up & dance.

This liberating & life-giving truth is no doubt meant to break us & remake us.

Psalm 139:1-12

2. silences any accusations & withstands any attacks concerning it.

The love of God cannot be fully explained, but it can be experienced & expressed.

Psalm 139:13-18

Making It Real

1] Are these expressions of gratitude to God for His love ongoing in your life?

2] Are there any accusations or attacks still accusing or attacking you today?

Action Step

If your answer to the first question is “no, not so much, or I wish,” ask God for understanding as to why that is. If your answer to the second question is “yes” in any way, ask Him for the veracity, intensity & audacity of His love for you to be a sword & shield in your mind & heart that ends those accusations & attacks.
